Food Support Network

"During this time of pandemic, we have often heard it said that “we are all in this together”. The quality of our care for the people who are the most vulnerable or disadvantaged will be the test of whether or not this is true. A commitment to the common good means attending to the good of all of us, without exception. It means paying special attention to those who are most often overlooked, sidelined or excluded"
 - 2020/2021 Bishop’s Statement, Foreword
COVID has had a significant impact on the community with people impacted by job losses.  The impact is expected to be greater once different forms of government support are reduced or ceased. The Social Justice group has been considering ways in which to best support those affected, while retaining their dignity.

At the commencement of COVID, the parish and school, led by Marea de Angelis, established a program to reach out to the elderly members of our parish and community. This was in recognition of the isolation that came with the early days of the lockdown, including the cessation of in person mass. The “Forget Me Not” program matched parishioners and resulted in wonderful connections for both parties. The aim is to continue these connections and build on them, even after the pandemic is over.

The Parish Social Group is organising a support network for those in need in the community. The current economic situation, as a result of COVID, has left some families experiencing financial strain. We would like to alleviate this stress in a small but hopefully comforting way. The idea is to have volunteers on a roster to prepare a meal for a family in need whilst maintaining their dignity and privacy.

Volunteers for the Meal Roster
If you would like to be on a roster to prepare a meal please add your name and contact details via this link https://forms.gle/Wfr7fDM97sMvKSms8
And please indicate the preferred days you will be able to drop off to the Parish office.
We request the following when preparing the meal:
- The meal is frozen
-  It is in a disposable container/s
-  the date it was made is indicated on the container/s
-  a brief description of the meal and key ingredients are written on the container
-  the number of people it will serve is indicated
- indicate if it is vegetarian or gluten free
Those on the roster will then be contacted, via email and text message, to drop off a frozen meal in a disposable container/s to a designated esky, that will be supplied by the social justice group, on the Parish office verandah by 5pm of the day requested. There will be hand sanitiser next to the esky to wipe your container and your hands.
It would be great if volunteers were able to make some extra meals at home and have them in their freezer ready to be delivered to the Parish when needed.
The Roster will begin on Monday 24th August, so it would be great if there were some meals ready to call on for that day. We are not sure of the need of what the take up will be, but thank you for being willing to participate.

Those in need of a meal – we are here to help
You can request to collect a meal via this anonymous form https://forms.gle/edJ25FdD42aSgWwP8
Simply let us know you would like to pick up a meal, and the day you will pick it up, you do not need to give your name.
The meal will be placed outside the Parish office in a designated esky and can be picked up between 5.30pm and 6.30pm. The Esky will be removed, by a member of the social justice group, from outside the office at 7pm and returned to the verandah the following afternoon, if the need arises.
There will be hand sanitiser next to the esky to wipe your container and your hands.
