Jesuit Social Services

Jesuit Social Services (“JSS”) works at the hard end of social justice with some of the most disadvantaged and vulnerable members of the community. JSS partners with community to support those most in need, and go where hope is needed most. JSS promotes education, lifelong learning and capacity building in all our activities. JSS believes this is the most effective means of helping people is to:
  • Reach their potential
  • Exercise their full citizenship; and
  • Strengthen the broader community
JSS also works in partnership with the Holy Family Parish, Emerton to run “The Ignite Store”. The store provides low cost, healthy fresh food to low income families. Donations are made by Harris Farm in relation to produce. “The Op Shop” provides quality recycled clothing and other affordable household items.

In June 2020 Father Kevin and a friend visited the Ignite store and made a personal donation on behalf of the Parish.  Father Kevin was very impressed with the set up of the store, and was provided a tour by David Hammond, who runs the organisation. Father Kevin recognised the enthusiasm of the volunteers running the store as well as the quality of the produce and benefit to members of the local community and parish.

The Parish and school have previously run appeals to collect food for JSS.  Due to COVID the opportunity to run such an appeal has been limited.  This is likely to recommence in 2021.
