Can we get married in your Churches? |
Yes, we welcome both parishioners and Catholics from outside the parish to marry in our churches. However, the Catholic Church encourages members of the Church to marry in their own parish church, having their own pastor as the celebrant. The Church emphasises the great benefit to the couple to prepare for their marriage within their faith community with the assistance and prayers of their fellow parishioners.
|
When can we get married? |
Parish activities always have priority. When not needed by the parish, the churches are available for weddings. The set times for weddings are as follows: St Peter Chanel: Saturdays at 11.00am, 1.30pm, 4.00pm; Sundays at 11.00am (except the first and third Sundays of the month), 1.30pm, 4.00pm. Holy Name of Mary: Saturdays at 11.30am, 1.30pm, 3.30pm. While most weddings take place at the weekend, it is possible to arrange to have a wedding on another day of the week.
|
Does your parish provide a celebrant for the wedding? |
The Parish Priest will gladly officiate at the weddings of parishioners. However, non-parish couples are normally required to arrange for their own celebrant, being a Catholic priest or deacon. The parish office will not make a firm booking until the couple have engaged their celebrant.
|
How much does it cost? |
Parishioners are asked to make a donation for the use of the church. Couples from outside the parish are required to make a set contribution to the parish. This contribution goes towards the conservation and upkeep of our heritage churches, as well as the provision of vergers, cleaners and secretarial services.
|
How do we book the church? |
Parishioners should make an appointment with the Parish Priest through the parish office. A booking for the church will not be made until this preliminary interview has taken place. Couples from outside the parish may contact the parish secretary by phone: 9817 5325. The secretary will let you know what times are available. Couples make the first tentative booking with the parish secretary personally or by phone and then will be supplied with further information and the booking forms. Bookings can be made for the current year and the following year only.

What do we need to do to prepare for the wedding? |
Your celebrant will help you prepare for this important event. You usually meet with him a number of times. At these meetings you will carry out the requirements demanded by both the State and the Church.. In most cases, the celebrant will require you to attend a marriage preparation program provided by the Church (e.g. Centacare or Engaged Encounter)
